CHED suspends college classes in Metro Manila, 12 areas - NDCC

MANILA, Philippines - Taking its cue from the Department of Education, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced Sunday night the suspension of classes in 13 areas hit hard by typhoon "Frank."

National Disaster Coordinating Council spokesman Anthony Golez Jr. said the CHED suspended college classes in the same areas where elementary and high school classes will be suspended.

"Doon sa binanggit na probinsya ng DepEd wala na ring pasok sila. ...Gusto niya bigyan ng pagkakataon ayusin ang kalagayan at kabuhayan bago sila pumasok (Classes in college will be suspended at the same areas as elementary and high school. Neri wants college students to put their homes in order before they return to class)," Golez said on dzBB radio.

The DepEd earlier announced the suspension of classes at the elementary and high school levels in Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Batangas, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, La Union, Benguet and Ilocos Norte. - GMANews.TV

Even though such announcement has been made, us UP Manila students, still need to wait for the official announcement from our Chancellor.

Come on Sir Chancellor, we are waiting! The children are dying to know whether they will have a free swimming party with the gallows of Taft's mirky flood water tomorrow! Haha!

Here's the latest text from the UP Manila Chancellor as of  7:11pm:

This is the continuation of my previous post. Well... Actually... I do not think they will be very much related from each other. I do not even know whether these two blog entries would become coherent enough to form a whole thing. Anyway, just want to keep my promise to continue what I have started yesterday. And, I guess, for the novelty of a blog entry with a sequel. Haha!

So where were we?

Hmmm...

We had our first clinical rotation in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. It was a pretty enjoyable clinical rotation because we had the chance to perform endorsements that staff nurses commonly do. This might sound weird, but I enjoyed the toxicity of those tasks. For some reason, I really felt that I was doing something that contributed much to the care of the patient. This might sound cheesy but then I felt that I contributed much to ensure that the continuity of care to a patient is thoroughly ensured.

Let me clear it up: I enjoyed the endorsements and all the things that we do during our duty time.  BUT, I still hate all the paperworks that we have to do right after the clinical duties. Add to it the fact that all the clinical papers we have to submit for N109.1 should be HANDWRITTEN! I repeat, HANDWRITTEN! Or in Filipino, SULAT KAMAY! If typing tons of papers is not enough, this time around its worse. Manual life to the max! Gawd! My right snail hand nearly necrosed because of writing so much stuff. Waaaahhhhh!!! I especially despise those drug studies! Grrrr!!!

****************

We attended the unveiling of the new oblation statue of UP Manila. Senator Angara and other prominent UP people were there.

This new oblation statue is situated at the smack center of UP Manila. It is located in front of the Philippine General Hospital where everyone could easily see all its glory. No pun intended. Haha!

I see this new edifice as a good thing because people will now be more aware of the location of the Manila campus of University of the Philippines. It’s because people always wonder about the exact place of our campus.

Also, I guess such event was very monumental for UP Manila so it was the place to be! Imagine, someday I could tell my grandchildren that I was there at the time it was formally inaugurated! Hahaha!

****************

I just learned from my classmates who are taking Psychiatric Nursing at the moment that my obsessive compulsiveness trait would have been pathologic in nature if I always come/arrive on time.

Hmmmm…… So that’s the reason….. Hmmmmmm…..

Hahahaha!

I have not been posting much stuff lately. I do not know why this is happening because there seems to be so much factors influencing this occurrence. So much so, that I cannot seem to point my finger on the main culprit. Well, whatever it is, I do not want to waste this little amount of time I have for such winding and taxing mystery.

So, what have I been to, the past week? Uhmmmm... Quite a lot actually. So many that I cannot seem to remember everything that I have done. Errggg! Such loser my memory have become these days! Haha!

Let's start with a bad thing first. I had an argument with a couple of security guards in one of the villages here in Paranaque. They did not want to let me pass through the gate of the village because the car I was driving did not have the appropriate sticker/gate pass. I had to argue that my Dad was the block commander of the area and we were still in the process of obtaining the sticker for such village. But still, they did not allow me to get in. So, I had to use some of my assertiveness skill on them. Thankfuly, I was able to coerce them to do so with a pledge of obtaining a sticker/gate pass as soon as possible. I guess, I looked credible enough for such promise. Haha!

Gawd! I do not understand why the traffic was like hell today. SLEX and the West Service road was overflowing with vehicles. I have been in many heavy traffic situations in the past but the circumstances in the street today were worse! I was trying to figure out the reason for such commotion but I cannot seem to find the most logical explanation for it. It was a good thing that the vehicle I was driving required the use of a single foot only. It was less tiring than the more common type of vehicles

Oh no! Sudden sleepiness attack! I guess this entry must be cut short. I shall continue this entry, after my trip to dreamland.

I hope I feel compelled to act upon such urge.

Fourth Year, Fourth Day

The fourth day of my last year as UP College of Nursing undergrad had just ended.

And at this early point, our batch, batch 2009 is already toxic as hell. Gawd! Our schedule is so jam packed! You see, we just have four days of lecture then we immediately go to our clinical duties.

Half of our batch even has a final exam on Monday already! I repeat, FINAL EXAM! With just about four days of lecture on Psychiatric Nursing, they already have to take the FINALS for it. Imagine cramming all those psych concepts in less than a week's time! Waaaaahhhh!!! So toxic!

I am just a bit fortunate that I am assigned to the section which will take the Critical Care Nursing part, first. This means that our section will take our Psychiatric Nursing on the second half of the semester.

Critical Care Nursing, is just a little-less toxic than Psychiatric Nursing because our finals for Critical Care will be after the 6 week clinical rotations. This means that we have more time to adjust with the toxicity of our senior college life!

I've intended to make a blog entry last tuesday, the first day of classes, but I got tied up with all the assignments that were given to us. Also, I had been quite busy with my NSC Finance Officer responsibilities so I had no choice but to postpone such plan.

We'll be having the first ever duty of our senior year on Monday. Our group, Group B, is assigned at the Post Anesthesia Care Unit of the Philippine General Hospital. This area will be the first of our Critical Care Nursing, Nursing 109.1, clinical rotations.

Good luck to Batch 2009! Go Group B! Go batchmates! We can do this!!! Wooooohhooooooo!!!!

3 Days Into UP Life

Yey!!! It is good to realize that all in all, today was a good day.

Though it ended well, it started quite rocky.

Ang aga kong nagising kanina to get ready for school. Siyempre, I want to change na, I don’t want to be late anymore. Although UP Manila is just quite near I need to be up and awake early kasi I am kinda slow ako mag-move pag-morning at saka matagal ako maligo kasi natutulog pa ako sa CR. Still groggy pa ako during that time.

Anyway, I was really ready for school na by 6:15. But then yung mga brothers ko di pa. They were still sleeping at our couch. Since Dad would fetch us all to school I had to wait for the two pa. Ang tagal pa nilang dalawa mag-move kaya there nauubos na ung time ko.

7:30 is the start of my class today and Mrs Recio is my prof for Nursing 1. I don’t want to be late kasi she had the reputation of being a terror. Ayoko nga mabato ng eraser sa face. And I don’t want it for that day to be the first one kaya pinapagalitan ko na ung dalawa kung kapatid para bilisan. 6:45 na kami nakaalis sa house. Mga 7 na kami nakarating sa Don Bosco Technical Institute, the new school of my brothers.

Since it is a big school with many rich kids that also ride cars going to school, clogged ang road to the said school. Kaya we, my mom, yong and yeng were forced to go down na lang sa may nearby place para pwede kaming mag-walk para mas mabilis, while my Dad drove the car along the traffic. Since it is a big school ang hirap maghanap ng room nila. Mga 5 mins pass 7 na un kaya tapos na ung pila for the Grade 1 students. It took us a long time pa to look for their room kasi we don’t know the place naman. 7:15 na eh hindi pa namin nakikita ung room/pila ng 1st years kaya nagdecide na lang si Mommy na pahatid na ako kay Daddy.

Grabe Don Bosco was still quite far from UP Manila with 10 minutes to spare na lang before 7:30. Aaaah, Late na ako!!!! Kulang na lang lumipad na ung car namin just to arrive on time. Goodness, I was really stressed tlaga.

I arrived sa Pedro Gil mga 7:40. I rushed to the College of Nursing Building mga 7:45.

Kakaiba kasi noon sa MakSci natutulog ako pag-free time. Ngayon di ko mapigilang dumaldal. Hanggang Math 11 daldalan pa rin kahit nasa corridor kasi wala rin ung prof.

Yes ang saya talaga!!! Puro daldal lang ang ginawa ko kanina. Hehehe!!!

Bago umuwi nagpa-photocs muna ako and I ate Ice cream at Rob. Wala lang.

That’s it. Later mag-rerewrite na ako ng notes. Wala lang.

Obvious na ang daldal ko noh!!! Hehehe!!!

Yehey wala pasok bukas!!! Hahaha!!! Sana maka-post ako ulit. I wish…

****************

Yeah! I know. My writing sucks big time. Though my writing still sucks nowadays, this blog entry of mine is worse!

Anyway, I just found it funny and nostalgic. Gawd! It had been almost 3 years since I wrote this blog entry! Waaaaahhhh!!! I miss those bum days! Hahaha!

Gawd! I am reminiscing about the past already! I really am getting old! Haha!

Blog EntryLocker RentalMay 31, '08 10:34 AM
for everyone
Hi!

I would like to inform everyone that the lockers located at the student's lounge (2nd floor, Sotejo Hall, UP College of Nursing) are for lease to interested individuals. The rental fee would amount to Php100.00 per locker. This payment would be valid for one academic year.

Application forms for these lockers are available on the day of enrollment for each batch. Look for the corresponding people on such day for the application forms:
Batch 2009: Eian Christian Sy, NSC Finance Officer
Batch 2010: Alain Rennel Asuncion, NSC Secretary General
Batch 2011: Pausiu Macapagal, NSC Representative to the USC

There are a limited number of lockers available. This means that not everyone will be able to acquire a locker for their bidding. Availability of lockers will be on a first come first serve basis, per year level.

Note: Those people who responded to previous NSC postings regarding renewal and reservation of lockers will be given high priority and will be guaranteed to have lockers. However, they still need to fill out application forms.

Rental fees shall be collected on the day the keys for the lockers shall be released.

Thanks!

For any questions, comments and suggestions just contact me.

I was wrong.

And, I am happy that I made a mistake! This is one of the few instances that I am glad that I made an error!

Woooohhhoooo!!!

David Cook won!!!

Congratulations to the 7th American Idol, David Cook!!!! You truly deserve the title!

I'll be looking forward to your music!

I want to play the prediction game.

I have just finished watching the final performance night of American Idol Season 7. And this I shall say: David Archuleta is the 7th American Idol.

My vibrations tell me that this boy will take home the title this season. I just have this "gut feel" of some sort... Hmmm...

I just hope that this "gut feel" is wrong.

I want David Cook to win! He deserves the title! He deserves to be the next American Idol. I mean, with all the things he have shown all throughout this season, he truly "owned" the competition this season. He definitely SHOULD win!

But then...

Everything that have happened in the past will be overshadowed by this last set of performances. Such night will be the defining moment of the season so it is very very very crucial.

And based from the events that have transpired, David Archuletta outshone David Cook.

Waaaahhh! I really really hope that I am wrong! Waaaaahhh!

Summary of events based on what I have seen:
  • Round 1: Archuleta triumphs over Cook with "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me"
  • Round 2: Cook tramples down Archuleta with "Dream Big" *I disagree with Simon! Archuleta's performance was too predictable*
  • Round 3: Archuleta becomes the 7th American Idol with "Imagine". *David Cook's song was, should I say, too subtle for the intensity and level of the competition. It would have been better to have sung that piece in the earlier parts of the competition. IMHO, it did not leave much of a mark that would make people vote. I did not feel any spark from it...*
Well, we all just have to wait and see! Waaahhh!!! I really hope that this "gut feel" of mine is a sham! Haha!

At long last! I have finally finished our Science and Technology in the Society (STS) video. Gawd! Editing and filming a movie is so taxing! Waaahhh! Toxic!

Despite all of the hardships, I still managed to enjoy the film making process as a whole. The pre and intra production required a lot of physical work and concentration. On the other hand, the post production entailed much creativity and patience. So much time and effort had been spent for this endeavor, and I have no qualms with the final outcome!

Whew! What an experience this activity was! Waaahhh! But I like it! Haha! Toxic yet fun! Unlike other stuff that we do in...... hmmmmm...... Hahaha!!!

Our video is entitled: I, the Constant Gardener of the Minority Gattaca Island (Not Another STS Movie)

I had fun making this vid! Sobra! Though what's left of my dignity will completely vanish after this video is made public, still, I am so proud of this work of ours! I hope other people will appreciate it as well!! Gawd! So melodramatic! Hahaha!

I'll post is as soon as I find a way to make the vid size smaller.

Watch out for it!!!

Blog EntryImpromptuMay 17, '08 2:44 AM

So many things have happened the past week. So plenty, that I almost forgot to blog about them. Haha!

***************

Last Wednesday, my friends and I played badminton. I was with Alvin, Joseph, JJ, Adel, Eli, Dremon, Karla, Mark and Jonas. Only the first five people really played. The rest just watched us play and they just loafed around the area.

I really enjoyed such badminton escapade because I have missed this sport so much. It is just so bad that I have become so noobish at it.... again... Haha!

On a more positive note, I won most of the matches. Out of 4 matches, I only lost 1! Woooohhh!!!

****************

Talk about impromtu

After the badminton session, JJ invited us to go swimming at his condo's pool. At first, I was not really buying such idea because I did not have any extra pair of shorts and undies with me. Also, the badminton shorts I was wearing was relatively thin in terms of the material it was made of. And, such pair of shorts is colored white.

As we all know, white clothes when gotten wet, would become see-through.

White undies + White Shorts + Water = No Dignity for Eian

Waaaaahhhh!!!

Even with all these obstacles presented, I gave in to my friends' coercion. Haha! With UPCN's busy schedule, it had been ages since I last did some swimming activity!

So what happened to me, you ask?
  • Lost my dignity.
  • Did not leave the pool until it was time to go home, in the hopes of preserving whatever dignity was left of me.
  • Took a shower
  • Squeezed water out of my undies
  • Squeezed some more
  • Squeezed like there was no tomorrow
  • Wore my undies like nothing happened
  • Felt uneasiness on the perineal area
  • Ignored the uneasiness
  • Drove home
  • Exerted much effort to ignore the uncomfortable eeky feeling
  • Took a bath immediately after arriving home
  • Thanked the heavens for new and fresh undies
  • Slept
  • Suffered DOMS (Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness) upon waking up
Whew. Such experience that was!

****************

Actually, that was my first experience of swimming in a pool, using ordinary, cotton undies as part of my swim wear. I tell you, it was a state not worth trying again.

Guys, next time there will be a swimming party/session, please do inform me of such event at an earlier time. I'd be very happy to prepare for it the night before.

Putting the undies experience aside, I really enjoyed all the activities we did! I hope we do it again soon! But let's do it in a less impromtu-like manner.  Come on! Kamon!

Blog EntryHusbands For SaleMay 13, '08 7:40 AM
for everyone
Got this from a former schoolmate, Levi:

A store that sells husbands has just opened in New York City, where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates. You may visit the store ONLY ONCE !

There are six floors and the attributes of the men increase as the shopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch .... you may choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building! So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband ...

On the first floor the sign on the door reads:

Floor 1 - These men have jobs and love the Lord.

The second floor sign reads:

Floor 2 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, and love kids.

The third floor sign reads:

Floor 3 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, and are extremely good looking.

"Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the fourth floor and sign reads:

Floor 4 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop- dead good looking and help with the housework.

"Oh, mercy me!" she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!"

Still, she goes to the fifth floor and sign reads:

Floor 5 - These men have jobs, love the Lord, love kids, are drop- dead gorgeous, help with the housework, and have a strong romantic streak.

She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the sixth floor and the signreads:

Floor 6 - You are visitor 4,363,012 to this floor. There are no men on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please.

Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store. Watch your step as you exit the building, and have a nice day!

Please send this to all men for a good laugh and to all the women who can handle the truth!

You have to learn to be grateful for what you have to get more.

When you are ungrateful you end up with nothing.

****************

I think this anecdote is funny.

I think it is a bit sexist too! Haha! I mean, even men have the tendency to look for the perfect partner, as well. *Guilty, as charged! Haha!*  Men look for the girl with the shiny hair, flawless skin tone, perfect pearly white teeth, beautiful face, great body, prompt attitude and magnificent wit. I mean, men look at other girls even when their girlfriend is right beside them *trying to look for the "more perfect" one, perhaps*.

This type of behavior is innate to human beings. People are just never satisfied.

I guess, the bottom line here is: Appreciate everything that you have and be thankful with it.

I know it is a bit late for this, but I'd still do it anyway.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

Thank you for everything. Though we know that words cannot sufficiently express our deepest gratitudes for you, we would like to take this opportunity to make you feel really really special for us.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

You are the best Mom for me and my brothers! That fact will never ever change!

****************

Since today is a special day for our Mom, we treated her to a scrumptuous lunch at TGI Friday's. Uhmmm...Correct that. Our Dad, treated my Mom, me and my brothers at TGI Friday's. *He was the one who shouldered all the expenses for such treat. Haha!*

I really enjoyed the food! So yummy! Haha! Suprisingly though, I did not order the second to the most expensive meal this time. *Usually, my Dad orders the most expensive meal for these occassions and I always come second because of my voraciousness.* I just opted for some pasta because I was craving for this type of food for some time already.

Yong, my younger brother ordered the second most expensive food which was a whole slab of baby back ribs. His food was so enormous that I thought he would not be able to consume it all because of his relatively small frame. I was so wrong! He was able to eat the entirety of the meat *except the bone of course* with no problem!

I wondered: Where the hell does my brother put all those food? He is so thin for god's sake?!?

I am quite envious towards my brother on this department because he does not get fat even though he eats so much! He is totally unlike me, who eats a lot and gets fatter and fatter each time! Waaahhhh!!!

Anyway, each of us totally enjoyed our meal. I was so stuffed that at such point, I refused to think about food already. Else, I would have puked because of gluttony. Hahaha!

****************

After lunch, we went to Rustan's to find a gift for my Mom. The gift we were shopping for was my Dad's gift for my her.

The catch: Dad hates shopping. He despises it so much that he does not buy a gift for anyone, independently. When there are special occassions like this, my Dad just asks the person to buy the gift on his/her own, with the money he shall provide. He says that in this manner, he will not be harassed with all the shopping commotion stuff, at the same time, the person gets the gift he/she truly likes. Such logic!

My Mom wanted to buy a new perfume so we went to the fragrance section.

Gawd! I did not realize how taxing it was to shop for a perfume! Aside from all the sales persons hounding you with their product by spraying here and there, one gets sensory overload from such experience. All of the famous and not-so-famous fragrance companies were there. Each of them competing against one another. All of them trying to out smell each other!

Because of so many varieties of perfume which one needs to have a sniff of, one's olfactory sense tends to fail at some point. Nasal fatigue sets in and each scent seems to smell like everything else. Even coffee beans can only do so much.

It was so hard, I tell you. My nose would have fallen off my face if I had not persuaded my Mom to choose from all the scents she had tested already.

So who won?

I had a bias for Dolce for the benefit of myself. But since we were shopping for my Mom, Versace took the victory.

For me, It did not matter  which perfume got the pick from my Mom. I just wanted to leave and let my olfactory nerves have some rest. I did not want my precious nose to die down on me. Haha!

Blog EntryMeeting Jun LozadaMay 1, '08 10:31 PM

Iaii, Pouch and I went to De La Salle Greenhills last Wednesday, April 30, 2008; to attend a forum for the new leaders of the youth. We represented the University of the Philippine College of Nursing as student leaders belonging to the Nursing Student Council. I was not supposed to come to this said event because I had a class. But due to fortunate turn of events, the class I was supposed to attend had been cancelled, so I was able to join my council mates on this gathering of youth leaders.

Honestly, I was not really keen on coming because I did not know the purpose of the said forum in the first place. When we arrived, I was surprised that a familiar television personality was there as well. JUN LOZADA was there! It turned out, he was the main speaker for this gathering.

I did not realize until now that he was a good deal of a speaker. He was not the usual not-so-intelligent-controversial-person we commonly encounter. The things he said during the forum truly made sense. His analogies toward issues were relevant and rational. He delivered in-depth discussions on problems that the country was facing.

Here are some of the notable points from him:
  • On the NBN-ZTE deal: He compared himself to the wedge of a lever trying to upturn a giant and heavy rock lying on the ground. He said that he could only budge the stone in the most little way possible. Thus, there must be hands to support the little opening that the wedge had done, to completely upturn the seemingly invincible object.
  • On people with good intentions: He found it sad when people who have the same goal yet different means become enemies. He further stated that this was the effect when people kept on demanding that they had the best way to the goal they wanted to attain while the others had got it completely wrong. This was when, in reality: there is no single map towards the common goal they had.
He also imparted a RUMOR which a person from the National Food Authority told him. Mr Jun Lozada stressed that this thing is just based from a person's word of mouth and that he had no evidence to prove it. I repeat this is just a RUMOR. The truthfulness or falseness of this contention is yet to be confirmed.
  • The Arroyo government had pre-bought unharvested rice from Vietnam last year. This was when the price for rice was just about $350 per metric ton. And now, since there is a rice "crisis," the demand for rice had increased geometrically. The current price per metric ton of rice is now $1,400++. The government makes it appear that they are spending this huge amount ($1,400++) of money for the import of rice.
So if this RUMOR is true, the question here is:
  • If the government have a supply of rice, bought through a contract made prior to the emergence of the rice crisis, and in which rice is acquired with a much lower price ($350 per metric ton); where does the remaining $1,100++ per metric ton go?

To delve things further:
  • The Philippines had already imported a total of 1.6 Million metric tons of rice. Doing the math: where's the roughly $1.76 Billion (1.6 Million multiplied to $1,100) that came from the pockets of the Filipino people?

At the moment, the answers to those queries will just have to be abstracted by the minds of the ordinary Filipino people.

After the forum, we had a casual chit-chat with Mr Lozada about current issues in the country and about our school, the University of the Philippines. He was very friendly. We even had some photos taken with him, before we finally headed our way home.

for everyone
These are the lectures by Professor Marilen Parungao for NatSciV.

Ma'am said that the coverage of the exam will be until the third lecture (Population and Community) only.

Good luck to everyone for the exam on Monday! We can do this! Haha!

Note: I divided the first lecture into two parts so that multiply can accomodate it. This is because multiply has a 20MB limit for their attachments.
