What do we know of Superman? Many will say: The Man of Steel. It is from this one heck of a hero that have inspired the superhero complex in every child, perhaps even to those who passed on greater years. From this character's life have we met the ever famous lines like "Who are you? A friend.." and "Look up in the sky! It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's SUPERMAN!"

But what more do we know of Superman? A lot perhaps like, he is from another galaxy specifically a planet called Krypton. He has incredible strength and speed. His one true love is Lois Lane. His mortal enemy is a billionaire named Lex Luthor. Who, incidentally, knows his only weakness: Kryptonite.

However, haven't anyone wondered what life did Superman lead when he was still just a boy of steel? Was producing fire from his eyes a past time? Was a curfew a thing imposed by his parents upon this boy? What was school like? Did this superhero ever experience being bullied just like any school boy had? Did he ever experience being late in school and be sent to the principal's office? Who was this superhero then? Who was the young Clark Kent?

All of these questions are showcased in Smallville, a series about the life of the young Superman. This series focuses on how a boy Clark Kent became the mighty savior of the world.

I have finished watching the first two seasons of Smallville. I can say that it is an interesting series. It is able to arouse interest upon it's viewers. It is an ok series, generally. It is the type of series that will not require much loyalty from the viewers. Meaning, people may not religiously watch the show but still understand the episode they will be stumbling upon. It is a per episode dilemma type of show.

Such format is all right in the beginning. But after some time, it will get to you. It becomes just like a routine. More specially if you are watching it through a DVD marathon like what I am doing. One tends to look for a bigger and harder problem that gives a good cliffhanger, a hook that will encourage one to want more. You look for that something that will give you an uncontrollable appetite, a hunger that will propel you to take everything until you feel satisfied.

Unfortunately, one cannot find it in the first two seasons of this series. One will need much motivation to move on to the next episode because there is nothing from its preceeding chapter to push you to watch it. On a better light, an episode is still a good watch once you have started it.

I am giving the first two seasons of Smallville three stars. This is from the premises stated earlier. Overall, it is nice a show to watch but excitement is on a per episode basis only. Meaning, thrill and mystery does not build up. Such factors begin and end with every episode.

I have just finished watching the fifth season of one my favourite series in television today, 24. I have spent 24 hours in front of the television to watch each chapter of the story unfold in the series.

The fifth season of 24 is set 18 months after the events that the last season covered. Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) is being set up for a crime. Not just any petty crime but an incident that involves the death of a very prominent person. Incidentally, this happens hours before the President of the United States of America, Charles Logan; and the President of the Russian Federation, Suvarov; sign a peace treaty between their respective countries. On the other hand, terrorists are at large who are in possession of US Military Sentox Nerve Gas, a chemical that can kill a person immediately after its inhalation. They are threatening the government to wreak havoc on US soil if their demands are not met. Jack is compelled to act on the matter because his involvement to the problem is deeply rooted with his life. The catch is: he should have been dead for 1 1/2 years already.

It is a day filled with power struggles and conspiracies. The twist of each event is driven by lust for power. It exhibits usurpation of authority and everything that comes in between.

Overall, I like this latest season of 24. However, it kind of fell short of my expectation. This is because I feel that there is something missing. Though, I can't point my fingers to it directly. All I can say is that, as a viewer I feel less enthralled by the events transpiring in this day than the last one. Season 4 of 24 really got my sympathetic nervous system all geared up. It kept me on the edge of my seat. This day's event was able to do that but not as much tension and excitement that the last season induced. This season was good but not as heart pounding as its predecessor.

The acting were great. Keifer Sutherland is perfect for the role. The characters were well characterized and indivualized. I especially liked Audrey Rains and Chloe O'Brien. I like Audrey because she gives heart and emotion to the series. Her presence gives the series the balance between hardore action and human emotional nature. On the other hand, I like Chloe O'Brien because she is such a techie goddess. Without her intelligence and expertise, Jack wouldn't be able to save the day.

The production was great. One can see that it is a highly budgeted series. It is able to deliver a great program.

I am giving this series four stars. Though not as thrilling as last season, it is still exciting nonetheless. It is still one of my favourite series. In fact, I am looking forward to its next season.
